ABS Plastic Injection Molding
There is a wide variety of material options out there for plastic injection molding. LXL provides free material consultations and helps you find the most suitable material for your products! Each material has its own characteristics as they all perform differently. Therefore using the right material is the key to the performance of customer’s products.
4 Major Factors to Consider:
- Hardness: How hard you want you products to be. It depends on the use of the part and the
environment(temperature, humidity, ultraviolet, and etc…) - Weight: The density of the plasitc. Choosing a right material can save a lot of cost since plastic
raw materials are sold by pound/kg. - Flexibility: How good the material can resist stress. For example, you might want a plastic plug
to have relatively higher flexibility because it will not break easily when you plug into something hard. - Cost: Different raw materials cost differently. The more expensive ones do not mean the better. It all
depends on the use of individual products. Therefore, choosing a suitable material is the primary step
in manufacture and it avoids unnecessary cost.
The Most Common Types of Materials:
- ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene)
- HDPE (High Density Polyethylene)
- LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene)
- PA6 (Nylon Type 6)
- PA66 (Nylon Type 66)
- PP (Polypropylene)
- PC (Polycarbonate)
- PC+ABS (Polycarbonate + Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene)
- PMMA (Acrylic)
- POM (Acetal, Polyoxymethylene)
- TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer)
- TPR (Thermoplastic Rubber)
- TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethanes)
