Overview

A custom machined bushing guides a shaft, takes the wear and keeps the softer housing around it untouched. We turn these parts from aluminum, steel, stainless and bronze bar stock, sizing the inner bore for the shaft and the outer diameter for the housing bore. Stepped faces set the assembled position, and the wall thickness is matched to the load the joint carries. A custom machined bushing can also be supplied as a split sleeve, which allows it to close onto a shaft without a press fit.

Key Features & Benefits

– Inner bore — turned and sized to the mating shaft
– Outer diameter — machined to the housing fit
– Stepped face — sets the assembled position
– Split sleeve format — closes onto the shaft without a press
– Bronze and steel options — for continuous wear duty

Customization Options

Bore diameter, wall thickness, overall length, step depth and the number of split slots are all set by your 3D file. Single bushings, matched sleeve sets and production quantities are turned from the same program, so a custom machined bushing can be revised without retooling. We also hold features such as oil grooves, chamfers and relief undercut to the 3D file you supply. Because a custom machined bushing is turned from bar rather than molded, no tool is required and the first article can serve as a production part.

Quality & Delivery

Each part is checked for bore size, outer diameter and concentricity, and a dimensional report goes out with the shipment when the joint is critical. Every custom machined bushing is deburred and cleaned before packing, and the bore is protected against handling marks. First articles are sent for approval before the run continues. Send your 3D file through our quotation page and we will confirm material, clearance and lead time.

Bushings and sleeves are the metal counterpart to our molded plastic bushings, which we produce when a design can use a lighter polymer part. Our mold-making team machines its own steel guide bushings and ejector sleeves, so this type of turned work runs alongside mold production every week.
