Overview

A plastic dome cap is a molded shell that presses onto a shaft end or a stud and covers it. The body is molded in one piece with a domed face and a skirt that closes on the base, and a stamped metal insert is set into the base of the shell. The insert carries a star shaped seat, so the points line up with the fitting on the shaft and the cap holds where it is pressed.

Shaft and cover parts sit beside this plastic dome cap. Our snap-in end cap closes a panel hole and our oval plastic end cap covers a profile with a center bore, while this cap presses onto a shaft end over a metal insert. The square tube cover protects a tube end; here the dome closes over the fitting on the shaft.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Press-on base — the shell sits over the shaft end
  • Metal insert — a stamped cup set into the base of the shell
  • Star seat — the points line up with the fitting on the shaft
  • Face — concentric rings molded across the dome
  • Skirt — closes on the base at an even line
  • One piece — the dome, the skirt and the insert seat come off one mold

Because a plastic dome cap is molded to your 3D file, the dome, the skirt and the insert seat repeat cavity to cavity.

Customization Options

Diameter, height, dome shape, insert, ring pattern and color all come from your 3D file, so a plastic dome cap is molded for the shaft and the fitting you press it onto.

  • Diameter — sized to your shaft and the fitting behind it
  • Height and dome — taken from your part
  • Insert — a stamped metal cup to your seat
  • Rings — the pattern molded across the face
  • Color — a red grade, a shade you match or a two-tone split

Quality & Delivery

Tooling for a plastic dome cap is cut in our own shop, and the first article of every cap is gauged against your 3D file — diameter, dome height, skirt and insert seat — before the run is released.

Mold faces are finished to the sheen your 3D file calls for, the gate is trimmed flush with the skirt, and the rings come off the mold even across the face. Lead time is quoted with the unit price and held to the date, and each batch is gauged before packing.

We mold each plastic dome cap to your 3D file, so the dome, the skirt and the insert seat follow the model. Send the 3D file and we return a quotation with the tool cost and the unit price.
