Overview

A VR housing is the molded shell that carries the front of a headset. It comes off one tool as a single piece: two round lens wells sit side by side in the inner face, a rib runs between them, and screw bosses stand at the corners. Slots on both sides take the head strap, and the outer face is molded smooth.

Each opening is molded with a ring seat, so a lens ring drops in and holds on the step, and the rib stiffens the shell across the bridge.

It sits with the other device shells we mold. Our white power bank housing is a two part shell, the handheld barcode scanner shell shapes a grip, and the transparent plastic cover closes over a face. This VR housing carries two lens wells and a strap.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Lens wells: both openings molded where your model sets them
  • Corner bosses: screw seats molded in the same pass as the shell
  • Strap slots: side openings molded with clean edges
  • One piece: the face, the wells and the bosses come off one tool
  • Strap path: the slots sit where your model places them

Because a VR housing is molded to your 3D file, the well spacing, the boss height and the slot position repeat cavity to cavity, so every shell in a run fits the same parts.

Customization Options

Outline, wall thickness, well size, strap slots, resin and color all come from your 3D file, so a VR housing is molded for the headset you build.

  • Outline: the shape and the radius of the face
  • Wells: size, spacing and ring seat from your model
  • Slots: strap openings placed where your model sets them
  • Bosses: screw seats at the corners
  • Color: an off white grade, a shade you match or a two tone split
  • Finish: the sheen your 3D file calls for

Quality & Delivery

Tooling for a VR housing is cut in our own mold shop, and the first article of every shell is gauged against your 3D file, well spacing and boss height included, before the run is released.

Mold faces are finished to the sheen your 3D file calls for, the gate is trimmed flush on the outer face, and the wells come off the mold clean. Lead time is quoted with the unit price and held to the date, and each batch is gauged before packing.

We mold every VR housing to your 3D file, so the wells, the bosses and the slots follow the model. Send the 3D file for a quotation with the tool cost and the unit price.
